Signature Aviation New State-of-the-Art Private Aviation Terminal in Glasgow
Signature Aviation, the world’s largest network of private aviation terminals, has a brand new terminal at Glasgow Airport (GLA) in Scotland. Signature Aviation is the world’s preeminent aviation hospitality company, offering exceptional experiences and essential support services to business and private aviation guests. The company’s large-scale infrastructure footprint enables travel, fosters human connection and is a critical global economic driver. Signature operates an industry-leading network of private aviation terminals, with over 200 locations covering key destinations in 27 countries across five continents and is the largest distributor of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in business aviation.
The new cutting-edge facility in Glasgow, is showcasing the enhanced guest experience and spotlighting the terminal’s expansive, thoughtfully designed amenities.
Signature Aviation have had an FBO (Fixed Base Operator) at Glasgow Airport since the early 1990's and with a growing customer base they needed a significant upgrade. The decision was taken to demolish the existing temporary building structure as it was no longer fit for purpose and decided to redevelop on the same site, a brand-new building that was more in keeping with Signature Aviation's corporate look & feel.
Designing Within Budget
Amos Beech were engaged from the strategy stage, designing the footprint around the specific needs of the business. Early indications around cost to deliver, mean the footprint had to be reduced to bring it within the capital spend that was available. What this meant for the client was instead of making compromises on the finished look of the building, the space was optimised from the start, ensuring that the final product met the expectations of the business.
The new Signature GLA terminal was designed to enhance the guest experience as a gateway to one of the most culturally rich and historic cities in Scotland and greater Europe. The new facility provides 433 square meters of total space (nearly 5,000 square feet), highlighted by several new amenities for world travellers, including an expansive new lounge space, a large meeting room for business use, a VIP lounge, showers, and a dedicated screening room.
Whilst the foundations and envelope were being constructed, the Amos Beech design team were in full flow, working with the client to design an interior that reflected the Signature Aviation brand and met the needs of their clientèle and staff. The brief was to design an interior with a homage to Glasgow and its heritage whilst retaining the overarching Signature Aviation corporate brand and the end result speaks for itself.
Leading the Project
Amos Beech led the entire project, acting as principal designer and principal contractor for the client. Working with the full range of professional services, we carried out a full range of site investigations which influenced the design and specific rules around working on a live airport were all taken into consideration.
Working with Signature Aviation, the Preconstruction team awarded works packages for the groundworks to Bottom Groundworks and the envelope to Modulek following competitive tender bids and evaluation. All works were co-ordinated and managed by the Amos Beech project management team, and Rebecca Howie was rarely seen in the office for 12 months!
The Result
From the grand entrance and bespoke concierge desks, through the Business Lounge and VIP Suite, the whole space now gives a sense of calm and purpose, resulting in a frictionless experience for people who value time over everything else.
